The West Mountain Residence was well known in its former life as the Mountain Street Laundry. The commercial building shell served well for the creation of the desired open, modern space. A second level was added with an independent steel structure, as the existing walls would not support the added load. This steel structure was projected to the front of the existing façade so as not to disturb it with the new column footings. This overlay of structure then becomes another layer in the collage of the building.
