Springdale Fire Station 4

Our experience working with the Springdale Fire Department spans more than a decade. Originally contracted to design two new stations in 2012, MBL + SFD worked together to develop a “prototype” station design. In-depth programming and planning exercises resulted in a functional, efficient, and highly regarded building design that has been repeated multiple times by the department. Over the years, slight modifications have been made to combat cost inflation and streamline construction, but overall each new station has remained true to the original design and client needs.
Each station has 8 individual bedroom with en suite bathrooms, fitness center, offices, large kitchen and dining area, and theater style day room. Because Springdale has ambulance service, dedicated spaces were added for storage of medical supplies and decon/med clean-up. A simple, yet incredibly useful feature of these station is a “flex space”- a dedicated room that changes functions based on each station’s needs. For example: at one station it is where they repair and service turnout gear, but at another station it houses a cascade machine and other essential equipment.
To date, six stations have been built using the prototype design with one more, Station 10, under construction and on schedule to finish in summer 2026.
Due to the location of their primary training facility (Mickey Jackson Fire Training Center) in far east Springdale, the Fire Department requested MBL incorporate a secondary training area at new Fire Station 4.
With minimal changes to the typical Springdale Fire Station floor plan, MBL designed a 25 person classroom, with a stand alone entrance, restrooms, kitchenette, and support spaces. The classroom has direct access to the rear of the station where a Future Phase II outdoor training area will be built. Phase II will include a training tower, drill ground, and apparatus parking.
